We are exploring ways of setting something up and need a Goframework as a structure for the organisation which hasn't done this before. We do have assessments built in our training courses but nothing formal. Any advice would be appreciated.
IT Screening toolshttps://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/groups/assessment/forum/topics/it-screening-tools2010-10-15T08:16:16.000Z2010-10-15T08:16:16.000ZKaren Smouthttps://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/members/KarenSmout

I am looking for a tool that will allow us to test the IT competence of both existing staff and those that are applying to join my organisation. It would therefore need to be available via the web. Ideally the tool would have simulations to test competence in Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel etc but it would also be beneficial if there was an authoring element that would allow us to create tests for our own bespoke applications. It would also be advantageous if it could link to an LMS we are about to install and could point users to courses based on their results.

Has anyone used such a tool and if so how effective was it.

e-competence assessmenthttps://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/groups/assessment/forum/topics/ecompetence-assessment2010-09-24T06:55:14.000Z2010-09-24T06:55:14.000ZAlison Wrighthttps://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/members/AlisonWright

We're embarking on a project to develop shared competence assessment tools across our region. So far, we have developed a region-wide Statutory and Mandatory Training Framework which defines learning outcomes and refresher intervals in nine essential skills areas. All our hospital Trusts in the South Central area have signed up to the Framework. We are now progressing the next step, which is to create online assessments for each of the nine skills areas, for staff to undertake prior to refresher training. Should a staff member pass an assessment they will not be required to undertake the training. If they're unsuccessful then they will need to attend classroom/eLearning.

The goal is to avoid unnecessary retraining of already competent staff.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has done/is planning to to do this and share experiences. Both from public or private sector.

Alison

e-Assessment in Practice, 10-11 November 2010https://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/groups/assessment/forum/topics/eassessment-in-practice-10112010-06-15T12:30:01.000Z2010-06-15T12:30:01.000ZVenkathttps://learningandskillsgroup.ning.com/members/Venkat
First Call for Papers

Please consider actively participating in the conference either by presenting
a paper, poster or demonstrating your recent research on e-Assessment. Formative assessments at the end of each lesson and summative assessments at the end of each module are pulled from a single question bank of 2200 questions. The summative assessments must be passed in batches at various stages of students' (junior Army officers) careers in order for them to be promoted. I have 3 main issues:- The questions are mostly multiple choice or similar and thus do not engage students; also they mainly test knowledge rather than understanding.- As the summative assessments are high stakes students focus on passing (by any means) rather than on learning. This is reinforced by a pervasive culture that sees the course as an incumbence.- Many of the questions were produced by subject matter experts rather than educators so the quality is patchy.I have a few ideas on how to address the above issues but would be very interested in your views, particularly on the first two of the issues...
