I was appointed the first fulltime CEO of the Broadcast Training & Skills Regulator (BTSR) in October 2007. It is a co-regulatory body established by Ofcom in partnership with the broadcast industry to monitor and encourage improvement in staff capabilities in the industry. Prior to taking up the BTSR role I managed a global department in IBM that designed and delivered all bespoke e-learning programmes for the 1000,000 plus staff of the consulting division of IBM.
My initial industrial training was at Thames TV and I worked in the Media industry for over 20 years as technician, production manager and company director. I devised the MA in Media Management whilst leading the media management programme on the University of Hertfordshire BA course at West Herts College. My book Managing in the Media (Focal Press 2001) is based on this mix of academic and industrial experience.
