Is less more?

The Economist ran an interesting article recently on technology in the recession, called 'Less is Moore'. It questions the continuing relevance of Moore's Law, which boils down to the following:

The cost of a given amount of computing power falls by half roughly every 18 months; so the amount of computing power available at a particular price doubles over the same period.

The future of the classroom

I was in a meeting yesterday where the IDC predictions - that the classroom will die - was laughed at yet again. IDC's been saying it since the 1980s and it hasn't happened yet! Well I must say I've changed my position and now, I'm with IDC! Here's my Strategic Planning Assumption - by 2010, when we expect to come out of this recession, the level of adult learning in the classroom will have dropped to 50% of 2008 levels. Jay's travel plans for the coming two weeks

I arrive in London mid-morning on Monday the 26th, take a brief stroll, and sleep off jet-lag. Maybe spend a few hours at the Victoria and Albert.

Tuesday the 27th I figure out what I intend to speak on at the conference and practice saying the words to the mirror. That evening I'll be at the Speaker Reception but plan to minimize carousing for the sake of my audience the following day.
