Hi Barry. Why would I remove an LMS? I think they are too confused in what they're trying to do and that they inhibit learning and training. Let me explain:
What is the core function of an LMS? Is it reporting? Is it content serving? Is it tracking for compliance? Is it measurement? Is it a single, 1 stop shop for everything? I think most LMS's try and do all this, and some senior management are entranced by the reporting and measurement tools. At the end of the day - the content is more easily accessible from a web site with a little database for scheduling.
Who actually cares how many people sat through an e-Learning course? I mean really cares - not just as a tick box exercise? We know that training and learning needs to be measured as in relation to a behaviour change or performance shift right? So the entire organisation needs to be in on it. That means line management and their management. For most people that's too much of a culture change so we rely on LMS reports of Number of Attendees, Training Days and Completions...
Putting it into an LMS and pumping out reports and "measurement" is not good for L&D and definitely doesn't help the poor old learners.
I tried to put that briefly - we could (and can if you want) discuss this at more length but is that a good starter for 10?

Thanks for inviting me in to this.
