I am quite new to this and looking for others' thoughts. I work for a small work based learning company and currently use Learning Assistant for our ePortfolios. We are looking into potentially cheaper options or preferably free (haha).
Many people have said to look at Mahara, but what I can see it is more of a reflective portfolio like Pebble Pad. We teach QCF qualifications and the likes of Learning Assistant are great as it as they are geared towards evidence based portfolios.
What do others use? How do they compare? Are there any free eportfolios??
JISC have done a lot of research in this area and there's useful information here: http://www.jiscinfonet.ac.uk/infokits/e-portfolios/ I am a PebblePad fan myself - have you explored the latest version? It's much more than a reflective portfolio and is great for evidence based learning and assessment. It's not open source of course. Even if you don't go down the PebblePad route they have a useful set of questions that you should address before you decide on which system to use: http://www.pebblepad.co.uk/essentialquestions.asp
Although we at NCFE don’t stipulate which e-portfolio system a customer should use, we have quality approved the systems you can access through this link http://www.ncfe.org.uk/centre-information/e-portfolio-systems that we would recommend you consider.
To gain approval from us, these providers were successful in a rigorous reviewing process. The process looked at whether they met our criteria for ease of access, usability, security, audit trails, support and cost.
