About me:

I am a Senior Instructional Systems Designer and Technical Instructor for Collins Aerospace UK, with 36 years of experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry with 20 of those in training design and delivery. I am currently responsible for designing and delivering training for Rockwell Collins products and also for maintaining UK Civil Aviation Authority approval for EASA 147 avionics courses. Prior to joining Rockwell Collins in June 2013, I worked for Selex ES, where I designed and delivered the Avionics Course for the British Army's New UAV, Watchkeeper. I also spent 23 years in the British Army as an Avionics Technician, the last 7 years of which were as an Instructor delivering aviation training to military personnel at all levels.

Dave Lawlor replied to Richard Clewer's discussion Colour code standards for schematic diagrams in Content creation within organisations
"Hi Richard,

I normally use black for Oxygen lines and Yellow for Gas lines.  I have used the following as a guide for Hydraulic charts.  It's very basic but a guide nontheless.
Cheers,
Dave

Richard Clewer replied to Richard Clewer's discussion Colour code standards for schematic diagrams in Armed Forces (UK) and MOD
"Many Thanks for this Tim.

From all my research so far it seems that there isn't any laid down standard for this type of thing, it is more to do with, as you say, meeting the needs of the specific learner (e.g. colour blindness, dyslexia etc).

I…"

"There are web safe colors which are standard, though this has more to do with viewing accross a range of platforms.

I do remember that there is guidance on using colours with regard to visually impaired people (i.e. colour blind people may confuse…"

Hi Everyone. I was asked the other day, if there are any laid down standards when it comes to colouring in schematic or block diagrams that are used in training. I have never come across anything myself in either the military or civilian sector but…

Richard Clewer replied to Jim Potts's discussion High-stakes summative assessment - beyond multiple choice? in Assessment
"Hi Jim.

I have seen this problem myself having been involved with training the MOD myself. Personally, I was not a fan of multiple choice partly because of the reasons you mention.

I attended the talk by Lt Cdr Paul Pine RN at the Conference last…"

"I certainly agree with you Phil about checking someone's ability to DO, and you were quite correct in that aviation technicians do under-go rigourous skills tests.

I am intrigued by Casson's idea of using a 'test' to get student's thinking about…"

"Hi Casson.

Can I assume your 'test to teach' is applied after the relevant material has been taught? The reason I ask is that a colleague of mine in the past used to use 'test to teach' in a practical setting ,without having taught anything, as a…"
