Markets and Markets research says that AI will grow to a $190 billion industry by 2025. AI has origins in the mid-1950s. John McCarthy who is known as Father of AI actually coined this term in his 1955 proposal for the 1956 Dartmouth conference. We are constantly looking for something new to implement and wants to follow the most recent ways to improve our learning and training zone. This time we are here with Artificial Intelligence. It is one of the recent key jargon or a buzzword in the industry.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is about designing intelligent software that can analyse its surrounded atmosphere and make smart choices. Today I would like to share some thoughts on the future of AI in eLearning or how intelligently we can apply it for better results.
I believe many of us might have already experienced the Artificial Intelligence in a different area of eLearning. For example, A chatbot in the course or a quiz program that throws a different set of questions on the basis of individual learner’s previous responses. It helps in building an individual learner path as well as set the difficulty levels for the learners. Like adding questions in areas where the learner has had more incorrect responses or enhance the degree of difficulty level after analysing the consistent correct responses from the learner. We have also used it in eLearning course to support the learner in those difficult situations when they don’t find anyone as an Instructor or Facilitator then these Chatbots plays their role. We designed AI applications based on logical rules and assigned task to performed by Chatbot. AI algorithms understand and respond to conversational text messages or queries asked in chatbox from these learners.
Different ways to use AI in eLearning
1. Real-Time Solutions: There is a group who preferred Traditional learning over E-learning because of its feature of real-time questioning and in-class discussion. I also agree that instead of 100% eLearning we should have a blend of Face to Face and E-learning. But just give a thought if we integrate AI in eLearning and solve your real-time questioning which learners may come across when they are taking the course and get a chance to clear their doubts as soon as it comes in their mind. We also understand the importance of clearing their doubts immediately to avoid the complicating their learning process. By integrating AI into your e-learning courses the need of walking up to the instructor or facilitator or lookup the internet every time which rises the doubt and confusion in the learner mind can be reduced or avoided.
2. Automated Language Processing: “Automated Language Processing, or ALP, is the part of AI that is focused on empowering computers to recognize and process human languages. Basically, it is all about how to talk to AI machines based on different logics and algorithms. It made them so intelligent and allows us talking to AI machines just like we talk to our friends. Post integration of your eLearning courses with an AI assistant, it allows your learners to ask queries and simplify their doubts in the language they prefer. It saves time to make learning more efficient and engaging.
3. AI in Generating Fresh Content: Nowadays learning expert are experimenting with Artificial Intelligence to create or generate new content. It is already being used to generate responses using existing online training materials. We wish that in the near future, it can be used to generate the entire content of an eLearning course or will support the Instructional designers by shedding their huge workload.
4. Individual Instruction or Personalize Learning: In the contemporary time we are delivering the same form of content to every single learner and which is actually is a very common tactic in corporate training. It can indeed be quite awesome for a trainer to cater to and meet the needs of every learner. But this one-size-fits-all approach is not always matched to different style and pace of learners. It actually creates an opportunity for use of AI to create personalized learning by using or tracking style, performance, the approach of an individual and use this data to amend the current learning material, and gives a personalized learning experience.
