Creating effective Social Learning with a Scaffolded approach
Julian Stodd, Author, The Social Leadership Handbook
As we move increasingly beyond the classroom, we have a whole range of options at our disposal: from mobile to social, the ways we learn are limitless. But how do we ensure that the learning is effective? In this session, I will present a model for creating 'scaffolded social learning', where we choreograph the learning across the different modalities.
It's a model of learning design for the Social Age, one that focusses on the 'sense making' function of our social communities and provides space for exploration, reflection and performance support.
- Learning is changing: we need to adapt our methodology to meet the needs of social learners
- It's not about creating one linear path, but rather layers of knowledge that let us build meaning
- We need to engineer in spaces for exploration and reflection
- We need to understand the co-creative processes of social learning
- Formal learning is abstract: social learning engages learners in their everyday reality
