Don’t you think you should pay some attention to organisational learning as well?

Dr Nigel Paine, CEO  NigelPaine.com Ltd.  Presenter Learning Now TV, Academic Director the Penn CLO Doctoral Program University of Pennsylvania, co-presenter From Scratch Podcast

Organisations place so much emphasis, and focus so much attention on the quantum of an individual’s learning and  the measurement of an individual's competence that  there does not seem to be much time left to spend on organisational learning at all. There is a misplaced assumption that if everyone learns you will have created a learning organisation,  but this is simply not true and there is no evidence that I can find to support that.

So when you need organisations to pivot and demonstrate agility,  a bunch of competent individuals are more likely to leave than work together to solve those significant challenges. When the organization learns, insight, knowledge and expertise are shared and the insight is bigger than any single individual. Why have we forgotten this simple and well researched truth?

Let’s explore:
  • Why individuals learning in an organization, is not the same as organisational learning
  • What an organisational brain might look like
  • How we might begin to build an organisational learning strategy
  • When Etienne Wenger's communities of practice came of age
  • If we do this, what happens?

With over 25 years of experience in corporate learning, Nigel is a regular speaker, writer and broadcaster on the topics of learning culture, technology and leadership. Making personalized, collaborative learning a reality
Joel Hellermark, CEO & Founder, Sana Labs

Collaboration and personalisation are two trends that dominate contemporary thinking about workplace learning.

Collaborative learning involves synchronous, interactive live sessions with groups of learners, and is powered by social dynamics and community.

Personalization focuses on self-paced instruction that responds to the unique needs of every learner, and is powered and scaled by AI.

Is it possible to combine these two? According to Joel it is. In this session, he will explore what it means to combine these two approaches in entirely new ways—using social dynamics to increase engagement while responding to each learner’s needs to improve learning outcomes. Join us to explore the exciting possibilities of personalized, collaborative learning.
