How long does it take to master a new skill?

If you ask Malcolm Gladwell, it takes 10,000 practice hours plus a pile of innate talent. If you ask your top performers, it could take anywhere from 6 months to 5 years of on-the-job experience. Either way, your organisation can't afford to wait that long for people to develop the skills needed to do their jobs safely and productively. Does this mean L&D must find new ways to accelerate the path to mastery? Or, in a workplace overwhelmed with constant change and disruption, is mastery even a worthwhile goal?

Join us for a discussion on the changing role of mastery in workplace performance. We'll explore the concept of 'skill-based learning' and explain why it is fundamentally challenging the idea of mastery. We'll identify common barriers that prevent rapid skill development and show you how to overcome them. We'll discuss the ways L&D must evolve to support a skill-based approach, including critical tactics such as deliberate practice, performance support and social learning. Finally we'll answer the question 'is being good enough good enough' in today's workplace.

No Powerpoint, no polls, no pitches. Just an open conversation about the role of L&D should play in building an agile, capable workforce.

Making personalized, collaborative learning a reality
Joel Hellermark, CEO & Founder, Sana Labs

Collaboration and personalisation are two trends that dominate contemporary thinking about workplace learning.

Collaborative learning involves synchronous, interactive live sessions with groups of learners, and is powered by social dynamics and community.

Personalization focuses on self-paced instruction that responds to the unique needs of every learner, and is powered and scaled by AI.

Is it possible to combine these two? According to Joel it is. In this session, he will explore what it means to combine these two approaches in entirely new ways—using social dynamics to increase engagement while responding to each learner’s needs to improve learning outcomes. Join us to explore the exciting possibilities of personalized, collaborative learning.
