Has anyone experience of models that have worked - or not - where experienced people or SMEs transfer expertise and develop less experienced people on specific issues ? Sometimes this is known as a "task force".
If the players are not in the same business unit, division or country and do not sit next to each other, one of the big issues of a "virtual" task force is how do you motivate appropriate behaviour given many people's loyalties may be to their country first. Is compensation/recharging for time spent a solution, or should knowledge should freely travel around a global organisation? In theory it should be the latter, but in practice I'm looking for workable models that navigate the political issues involved.
